Zesty Tiramisu Mousse

Tiramisu – One dessert that I absolutely love after anything chocolate is Tiramisu! That blend of mascarpone with biscuits and coffee is enough for me to salivate as I write this recipe.

This mousse cup took me less than 10 minutes to get the layers going and what’s best? Chill for at least 30-40 minutes ( finished a 3 mile run ) and eat it without having to buy biscuits and bake a sponge! My husband likes everything fruit-y so I added orange zest to this which gave this fresh aroma along with coffee that was pure heaven! I love how these flavors and aroma just blend together and gave birth to a beautiful, delicious twist to an already world wide favorite dessert.

Adding color to the cream is optional. It gave this beautiful sunset/coral color that I think looks beautiful when you present it family/friends on occasions. The amount of coffee will also vary from person to person so feel free to add in more or not!

Ingredients –

  • Mascarpone cheese – 2 cups
  • Whipped cream – 2 cups
  • Orange zest – 2 or 3 tsp
  • Maple syrup – 1/4 cup
  • Coffee powder – 2 tbsp ( by preference, add less or more)
  • Cadbury Chocolate powder – 2 tbsp
  • Orange food color – 1/2 tsp
  • Chocolate wafer (optional) – 6

Directions –

  • For best results, place everything except the coffee and chocolate powder in the fridge for at least 30 minutes prior to making mousse cups.
  • In a medium sized bowl, add in mascarpone cheese, 1 tsp of zest and 1 tbsp of coffee (add less or more depending on your taste) and whisk till it incorporates well.
  • Set this layer in separate cups or a big bowl as you would like to serve it. Place it in the fridge for at least 40 minutes before adding the second layer.
  • In a separate bowl whisk cream, orange color and some more orange zest until soft peaks are formed.
  • Once the first layer is set, add in the second layer.
  • Keep the bowl of two layers in the fridge again for at least 45 minutes before serving.
  • Just before serving add in the remaining coffee powder, chocolate powder and some more orange zest.
  • For garnish purposes, I added a chocolate wafer on the sides (optional) but worth it to scoop all the layers with the help of a wafer plus you get to eat it too!
